What internal medicine covers

Internal medicine is where most cases start and where the ones that do not fit a single organ end up. Vomiting that will not settle, weight loss with a normal appetite, increased thirst, lethargy that the owner describes as the animal simply slowing down - these are the presentations that need a diagnostic sequence rather than a prescription.

The sequence is usually the same: examination, blood and urine analysis, imaging where indicated. Ultrasound and radiography are available on site, so in most cases you leave with an answer or with a clear next step rather than with a referral and another appointment somewhere else.

Chronic disease in older animals

Kidney disease in cats, diabetes in both species, thyroid disorders and liver disease share one feature: they are found early only if somebody looks. A senior animal that seems well can already have a kidney value drifting upwards, and the earlier that is caught the more can be done about the diet and the fluid intake before symptoms appear.

For diagnosed chronic patients the work becomes long-term. We set the monitoring intervals, adjust doses against the results and tell you which changes at home warrant an earlier visit. Owners who keep a simple record of water intake, appetite and weight give us far better data than memory does.

Diagnostics on site

Blood analysis, urine testing, abdominal and thoracic ultrasound and radiography are performed in the clinic. Results from in-house analysis are available during the visit, which matters when an animal is unwell and the decision cannot wait until the next day.

Practical details

For a first internal medicine consultation, bring any previous results you have, including test reports from another country. If urine is part of the question, a sample collected at home that morning and kept cool is more useful than one collected after a stressful journey.

The clinic is at ul. Kościuszki 61 in Lutynia, in the Miękinia municipality, about 18 km west of Wrocław. Parking along the street is free, with no paid zone. We are open Monday to Friday 10:00-20:00 and Saturday 10:00-15:00; Sunday is closed, which is worth planning around if you are driving in from further away.

Book by phone on +48 533 557 247 or through the online system. If writing is easier than speaking, e-mail kontakt@multivetlutynia.pl with a short description of the problem and a preferred day.

We see dogs, cats, rodents, rabbits and ornamental birds. Horses are covered for rehabilitation only. We do not treat farm animals.

Rodents and rabbits deserve a separate note. Their symptoms develop faster and are easier to miss than in dogs and cats, and a rabbit that has not eaten since yesterday is an urgent case rather than a fussy one. If you keep small mammals, do not wait for a pattern to establish itself before calling.

Worth reading before your visit

The most common disease of older cats is chronic kidney disease.

Increased thirst and weight loss can indicate diabetes in dogs and cats.

Animals mask discomfort, so it helps to know how to recognise pain.
